Anti-Segregation Summer Begins

NYRA is reintroducing its highly successful campaign from last summer. This time we are broadening the approach and looking to take on businesses all across the country. These stores discriminate against young people, and in many cases they break the law to do it. Help NYRA bring these stores to justice. Businesses have been located in Maryland, New York, Texas, Michigan, and Tennessee so far, but we need more. NYRA needs an extensive list of violating stores for us to go after, the larger the number of offenders, the larger the effect we can have. Preliminary work is being done, and once we get a good list of violators we will begin. Keep a sharp eye out for age discrimination in your city and report stores to NYRAUSA@….

General Meeting Called

The NYRA Board of Directors has called the 2002 General Meeting. At the General Meeting you, the membership, get to vote for those few special people who will lead NYRA on the Board of Directors. This year’s election will cover several other matters such as bylaw changes. This year’s election will also mark the implementation of Instant Run-off Voting to help the process along. Voting will begin August 3 and will conclude September 7 at the In-Person NYRA General Meeting. Anyone can run for the Board, if you are interested please send an e-mail to NYRAUSA@….

Back to CNN Again

On May 9 NYRA President Alex Koroknay-Palicz made his second appearance on CNN. This time it was CNN International, a worldwide CNN channel. Koroknay-Palicz was invited to be on the show just 2 hours before it aired, so there was little time to notify members. The program went just as well as the first CNN appearance last summer, many Youth Rights issues and arguments were raised. Koroknay-Palicz was brought on to discuss differences between this generation and our parent’s generation in terms of rights and prosperity. Stay tuned to the NYRA homepage for word on when a transcript of the segment will be available.

NYRA-MA Fundraising Success

The NYRA chapter for Madison, Wisconsin held a fundraiser bash on May 5. Chapter President Hannah Wydeven explains the event, “The fundraiser was organized and put together by all 15 and 16 year old high school students, it was held at the Wil-Mar community center downtown Madison and it ran from 4:15 in the afternoon until 10:30 at night. we had 7 bands play total with a DJ between the bands.” In total the event raised over 300 dollars for NYRA-Madison. The chapter plans to use the funds to purchase promotional materials and a large banner to use in their protest of the National Mayor’s Council June 13-19.
