Volunteering for Community Service Hours

The National Youth Rights Association (NYRA), the largest youth rights advocate in the country, always appreciates volunteers. As an organization that fights for young people, NYRA is glad to have young people as those volunteers. Many young people need community service hours, which are sometimes just called service hours or student service learning programs, and volunteering for NYRA counts toward those service hours.

Any of the opportunities we list on this section of the website will count toward your hours. Contributing to our action teams, work through the Facebook app, interning or starting a chapter should count. We have made an effort to make things as easy as possible for you to help out. So, if you are interested in helping out, please click those links for more information.

While you can volunteer with or without school credit, if you want credit be sure to check with your school counselor to ensure that your school will accept the time you spend with NYRA as credit toward your community service hours because requirements and guidelines vary among school districts. However, because NYRA is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization recognized by the Internal Revenue Service and because advocating for youth is community service, your school should accept service hours done with NYRA.

If your school refuses to accept service hours done with NYRA, please let us know. Be sure to include the name and location of your school in the contact form, which is located on our Contact Us page.

Most schools require students to have someone sign off on their community service hours. If your school has an electronic form on their website or elsewhere, we will ask for it when we contact with you. We can sign electronic community service hours forms. If you cannot find an electronic form, we will ask you to send us your school’s community service hours form through facsimile. Our fax number is 202-296-4030.

Students in several states have already earned their community service hours with the National Youth Rights Association. Thank you for choosing to earn yours with us as well.
