Today was the first time I voted in a federal election. I thought it would be a big deal, but it really wasn't. I live in a really small town (unincorperated), so I didn't have to wait in line. I researched the canidates and was totally prepared. I voted mostly for Dems (my parents are Republicans), but I did vote for a few non demacrats. After that I walked out and it was over. No big deal.

Are there any other new voters this year. What was your first experience like?

First time I voted in a federal election, though I voted early. My votes didn't make much of a difference though, b/c I live in an extremely democratic district

Democrats are typically the good guys.

Today was my first time voting. It's vote by mail where I live, so all I had to do was fill out the ballot and drop it off at city hall. My impressions:

1) It's amazing how something as insignificant as casting a vote can become so meaningful when millions of people do it. I mean really… I know it's a cliche, but this is an amazing system of government we have in the US. I'm not usually one for patriotism, but today I'm very happy to live in a country where the voice of the people is valued so highly. However…

2) It's also amazing that today is the first time I've been allowed to vote. Seriously? I couldn't have done this the last time around? Apparently my primitive sixteen-year-old brain just wasn't up to the task. bang-head Taking part in the business of voting just makes me feel even more strongly that the voting age is wrong. My heart goes out to those who were barred from voting in this election because of their age. Nobody has the right to tell you to wait a few more years… if you want to vote, you're ready to vote. I just wish there had been a ballot measure to that effect. I sure as hell would have voted for it.
