Alright, just like we do every year, this is the thread where anyone can ask questions of those running for board, and candidates can answer. Feel free to ask about stances on issues, ideas, experience, plans, and whatever else.
I'll start with one.
What will you do to grow our membership and support base?

What I would do to grow membership within the NYRA by serving on the Board of Directors is to allow the access of all individuals in communities to be significant to the NYRA as a whole and be able to readily contact anyone within the NYRA as easily as possible. I would also try and connect people within the NYRA to a multitude of media sources to get our viewpoints out and if we do so, we will be successful in bringing out youth to join the organization, therefore increasing the turnout of members. Social media needs to be utilized as much as possible as well, and that is what I would use significantly to increase the number of members. Youth use social media networking all the time, and we have to use that in the most successful way to increase the base of the NYRA and to be able to get our stances on issues out into the public even more. With the increase in members we have more resources for the projects we take on, we have more people to fight for the rights of all youth, and we will create a new stamp on society with more people by making youth rights a significant issue in public policy. It is also necessary to connect NYRA members with local, state, and national elected officials. I recognize that with the connection of youth to elected officials, there will be an increase in the amount of members for the fact that youth will see that the NYRA is accomplishing a task and they will want to become a part of the societal change the NYRA is successful at. Thank you. I hope to answer anymore questions.Â

Any ideas to fight the escort/kidnapping/ bm camps?

I saw this: http://savevictoria.com/dr-dre…..h-academy/

Maybe someone should sue Dr. Drew? (Was he paid for the endorsement? and if he was and he's a doctor are there conflicts of interest?).

To grow our membership and support base, I think that we need to get local presence in individual states. We should attempt to create more local chapters in states that do not have a strong NYRA presence. I also think that we should try to get a stronger community. Many of our members do not post on the forums anymore because they switched. If we will get more support by switching back to the old forums, I think its worth it. Also I think we need a stronger web presence as well. I think that we should do everything we can to make the website up to date and as new as possible to not turn off people who come to the website. I think that we need to at the very least fix our many website glitches that make our website inaccessable to people, and possibly create a mobile version of the site. I think that we should try to raise funds to keep the website in top condition, because if you stumble upon this site and it doesn't work, then you might not join the NYRA community, simply because you can't.
Â
To fight the escorting/behavior modification camps/kidnapping I think we should team up with a group that specializes in fighting the escorting/behavior modification camps/kidnapping. A group like CAFETY. From there we can organize protests, and help survivors reintegrate back into society, as well as informing the general public how to escape being kidnapped, or escape the camps themselfs. We should also attempt to inform parents of the better options. Knowing is half the battle

I am Spencer Dembner, and i am running for NYRA's board of directors.
I believe that the best way to grow NYRA's membership is by articulating clearly how we differ from our opponents, and questioning the premises that allow them to impose age restrictions on youth, and to convince the population that they are any different from any other restriction. The way the youh rights movement argues the issues implicitly accepts the idea hat age restricions are necessary, and so to gain wider relevance, we need to start challenging the basic ideas that make the discrimination against youth posible in the first place.
As far as behavior modification is concerned, I believe that the best way to tackle places like the judge rotenberg center is to bring wider media attention to the more extreme ones, and thus to spread more awareness for the issue of behavior modification, and youth rights in general. We need to keep in mind that issues such as gulag schools and curfews are proximate issues for broader issues of disenfranchisement. They give us an excellent chance to raise broader youth rights topics, and get people thinking about youth rights as a whole, based off of the premise that the curent system gives regulators no incentive to stop things like gulag schools.

Defending your rights is patriotic and American until the youth congress is founded, at which point it becomes sedition, and must be investigated by the House Special Investigations Committee.

Don't mean to be a pain, but in my question, I asked "what will YOU do to grow our membership and support base?" As in, what will YOU do personally, or what are you already doing, to accomplish this? It's easy to say what the org as a whole should do. Everyone says that! What we don't get often enough is what any of us will *personally* do.
So, same question as in my first post, but I ask it again in regards to your own actions and plans.
And since I'm also a candidate, as for the behavior mod thing, we're already closely linked with CAFETY and have worked with them on campaigns quite a bit in the past. We could always work with them some more. I'm in a correspondence with someone from CAFETY about this right now actually.

I'm megan Wanzo and I'm running for BOD.
I would personally send letters to schools and youth centers asking them if they would be willing to talk to tell their students about youth rights.
If they were I think it would be great if NYRA could start a mobile unit. Nothing expensive, just supplying board members the materials neccessary to advocate in our area.
One major goal I talked about was having a fundraiser of some sort. I would love to organize a race, such as a 5k, half marathon, etc., or a sit down dinner. I think its a great way to speak about our cause and incorporate a good time for people.
