Regional Captains – Requests for Data

Regional captains:

Requests for data about NYRA members in particular areas have always gone to me, but as I announced a while ago, I'm taking a leave of absence for the next school year (about 9 months).

I'd like regional captains to learn how to retrieve data themselves, which would ultimately be much more efficient.

So I want to train some people how to use the new zip-in-radius tool I've created. You simply enter a zip code, then enter a mile radius, and the program will return all NYRA members living within that distance from that zip code.

I also want to train people how to do basic SQL queries to retrieve data.

Thanks.

So here's what I want to cover:

-Relational database basics

-SQL basics (emphasis on MySQL version of SQL)

-Using the staff page to execute queries

-Using the zip-in-radius tool on the staff page

-Using filters on view/update form

-Using PHPMyAdmin (for whoever has access to the cpanel)

So I'd like Adam King, Scott, Alex, Keith, and whoever else is interested to go to the training session. And does anyone have any suggestions for a date?

As Rich has discussed with me on IM, we should set a date for a training session.

I will not be available from from July 23 – 26 or 27. But otherwise, I will be free most nights until school starts back on August 18.

Hopefully, someone who goes to this session will pass on that information to my replacement. As of August 1, 2005 at 9:00 AM PDT, I will begin to work exclusively on my new position (Research and Education Director) and will be replaced by a new staffer, an interim, or the National Formation Director (in that order of precedence).

I will not continue to need access to this type of information come that time (as I have been promoted into another office), so I will not be attending the training.

Alex, when can you go to a training session?

Weekdays.

But I dunno if I'd benefit much from a training session. My eyes will probably glaze over due to excessive techiness. I'm just trying to focus on being able to handle the new lists. Of course they aren't much harder than yahoo groups, but i'm still resisting.

Actually it does look like I'll be home on Sunday frown So if we wanted to do it then, I might stop by.

Heh, well…… actually there has been a change of plans again and now I AM going up to PA this weekend. So…. smile

But I was talking with you earlier about the meeting and said I'd come, so I'm coming. I'll drive up after the meeting. Hopefully we get a decent turnout.
