In this forum, there's a discussion going on about lowering the age of majority. I'm wondering if perhaps we're going about this the wrong way; instead of focusing on age, why not focus on what's important? The capability of properly handling consequences? Also important is whether someone is qualified to do something. This could help from everything from who gets to live on their own to who can vote to who is able to engage in x sexual activity. In the past, I've focused my efforts on the issue of sexual activity, but this principle can be applied to just about anything where age is currently the main focus. After all, is not things like the Age of Consent essentially to try to know when someone is 'ready' to engage in sexual activities? But it's not measuring for readiness, but instead for age; that is its major flaw.
