NYRA's 2010 Annual Meeting in Washington, DC is almost upon us!

In less than a month NYRA members from around the country will gather in our nation's capitol for what promises to be the biggest, most involved Annual Meeting yet. The Annual Meeting is set for August 7-8 in Washington, DC.

Agenda & Workshops
We will have a full range of workshops and trainings for Annual Meeting attendees. The full agenda has been finalized, here is the 2010 NYRA Annual Meeting schedule:

Saturday

9 - 9:30 - Opening remarks by Jeffrey Nadel
9:30 - 10:30 - From the Start to Finish, the Tale of a Major Gift by Dave Moss
10:30 - 11:30 - Usi's Guide to Emancipation, by Usiel Phoenix
11:30 - 12:30 - A training on how to start and run student groups by Liya Palagashvili of Students for Liberty.
12:30 - 1:30 - Lunch (on your own)
1:30 - 3 - Screening of "10 Rules For Dealing With Police" Followed by discussion about the film with Steve Silverman of Flex Your Rights
3 - 4 - The Youth Movement and Storytelling by Michael Parker of Search for Common Ground
4 - 6:30 - Annual report, presentation of the NYRA Awards & voting for the board election.
7:00 - 10:00 - Grilling for Youth Rights. Party at Dave's house!

Sunday

9 - 10 - Survivors Discuss the Teen Behavior Modification Industry by Hal Levy and Michael Crawford
10 - 11 - Non-Profit Tricks of the Trade by Dave Moss
11 - 12 - The Evolution of Youth Free Speech Rights by Rachel Levinson of the American Association of University Professors
12 - 1 - Pizza, Strategic Planning and You
1 - 2 - Media Relations: Putting you in Control of the Story by Jeffrey Nadel
2 - 3 - How to Fight for Free Speech by Adam Goldstein, of the Student Press Law Center
3 - 3:15 - Closing remarks by Jeffrey Nadel

Breakfast will be provided on both days, lunch will be provided on Sunday, and dinner will be provided on Saturday evening. All you have to do is show up!

Directions
The event will be at Search for Common Ground who has graciously given us space for the meeting. The address is:

If you are metroing in (recommended) take the red line to Dupont Circle. Get off at the north exit and the building is very close, right next to a Subway, please see Google Street View for the exact location. The building will be locked, so please call the following phone number, 301-738-6769, so we can let you in.

There is no cost for attending the meeting.

Also, Saturday night after the meeting everyone is invited back to Dave's house for a barbeque! All free! The fun will kick off at 7:30 pm and go till...whenever. The barbeque is a short walk away from the meeting:

Airports in the area are Dulles (IAD), Reagan National (DCA), Thurgood Marshall (BWI). The Bolt Bus is a cheap option from New York. Attendees driving in should also check the ride share thread in the forums. If you need a ride to the meeting you should absolutely let us know.

Lodging
We understand NYRA members are on a budget, so we've compiled a list of options for free and cheap places to stay while in Washington, DC for the Annual Meeting.

DC Youth Hostels

With prices from $20-$40 a night, hostels are great options for NYRA members traveling on a budget. Washington, DC has a number of acclaimed hostels. You might not always have a private room (though can pay more if you want one) but you'll find warm beds, warm showers and warm people. St. Stephen's Church

St. Stephen's Church is pleased to offer sleeping space on our floors to groups travelling to Washington, DC, for protests, conferences, work projects, or other events. St. Stephen’s has offered its space since the 1960s; tens of thousands of people have slept on our floors over the years, protesting various wars, demanding equal rights, attending conferences and much more. Stay With Area NYRA Members

NYRA has an active presence in the Washington, DC area. Some of them are generously opening their homes to visitors from out of state. If you are interested in staying with a local DC member please visit this thread in the forums to arrange accommodations. Please be aware that space is extremely limited and that attendees come from a variety of backgrounds and situations, so if you can afford to stay at a hostel please allow others to have the free options.
